We were expecting only the HTC Desire 820 to be launched in India this week; but the Taiwanese brand has surprised us by revealing the 820q and 816G smartphones as well. The second handset is merely a variant of the new mid-range flagship, while the third phone is a cheaper option of its original.
The HTC Desire 820 is basically the successor to the Desire 816 and it’s the first smartphone to carry the octa core Snapdragon 615 processor with 64-bit support. The 820q version will also be 64-bit enabled, but have a slower SOC through the Snapdragon 410 chip. The other difference is that the former model has 2GB RAM, while the latter comes with 1GB.
The rest of the features for both aforementioned HTC Desire smartphones are identical. They pack a 5.5-inch 720p LCD panel with Boom Sound speakers and an 8MP camera on the front. The rear continues to offer a 13MP shooter and the internal storage has been increased to 16GB with 128GB microSD expandability.
HTC Desire 820 smartphone specs at a glance:
– OS: Android 4.4 KitKat platform
– Display: 5.5-inch 720p HD screen
– Processor: Octa core Snapdragon 615 at up to 1.5GHz
– Storage: 16GB internal, 128GB expandable
– RAM: 2GB
– Camera: 8MP front, 13MP rear

Like the 820 and 820q handsets, the only differences between the Desire 816 and 816G are the processor and RAM. The original model carries a 1.6GHz quad core Snapdragon 400 chip with 1.5GB of RAM and the new release comes with a slower 1.3GHz quad core MediaTek SOC and only a gigabyte of memory. Other features include a 5.5-inch HD display, 8GB storage, a 5MP front camera, a 13MP rear snapper and a 2600mAh battery.
Price details for the HTC Desire 820 and 820q haven’t been disclosed as yet, but we do know that the phones will hit stores in November during the festive season. The Desire 816G on the other hand, will go on sale in October for Rs 18990.
