Consumers would certainly want to snap up a competent substitute to multiple and complex remote control peripherals. Griffin has joined hands with Dijit to seamlessly transform an iOS or smartphone device into a universal remote control. The newest offering renders effortless control of the entire entertainment system. These companies also highlight that the product will be displayed at CES 2011.

The Beacon universal remote control augments the functionality level and turns a smartphone into an easy-to-use remote for home entertainment systems. This is precisely done by converting Bluetooth signals from the device to the Infrared commands which the components expect. The solution links the iOS device or smartphone with Dijit’s free Universal Remote App.

“Beacon allows control over the entire home theater setup, all from a pocket-sized device,” commented Matt Brown, Director of Product Development at Griffin. “Together with Dijit, we have created a powerful tool that really simplifies the entertainment experience by providing a customized program guide for all of your content in the home.”

Owners need not worry since the setup process and pairing is simple. Mobile buffs can use their handset’s touchscreen to quickly change channels, volume, input, program the DVR and more. Besides an incorporated learning feature, the Dijit app utilizes a frequently updated device code library to simplify controls of the TV, set-top box, sound system and media players.

The Beacon universal remote control is tagged at $79.99 and is expected to hit shelves in May 2011.
