Google’s Nexus not dead, 5.9-inch Motorola ‘Shamu’ may be Nexus 6

Google’s Nexus 6 is supposedly a 5.9-inch Motorola smartphone dubbed ‘Shamu,’ a device that hasn’t been killed by the Android Silver program. Ever since we heard of Silver, there were rumors that the Nexus line would be ditched in its favor.

But now details about the upcoming phone have reached Android Police and the site is saying that you can expect to see it being unveiled in November this year. Apart from a large 5.9-inch display which will be a first for Google, by the way, it will also kick in a fingerprint scanner according to the source.

‘Shamu’ is the name of a killer whale who lived during the 1960s and if you’re wondering why that’s the codename given to the alleged Nexus 6 you might like this fact. Google has a penchant for using the names of sea creatures as codenames for its Nexus products, another reason for making us believe in the said rumor.

Apart from a smartphone, a pure Android tablet is apparently also under development from Google and HTC. This 8.9-inch slate could challenge the iPad head-on with its advanced specifications that include a 2K display among other things. Both this tablet and the ‘Shamu’ will feature the Android L version which is supposed to be rolled out later this year.

Google may have chosen to go for a 5.9-inch display on the Motorola Nexus 6 due to the fact that Apple is readying its very own phablet bearing a 5.5-inch display, which is to be released late this year or early in the next one.
