Google’s Chromebook school program comes to India

Google has decided to bring its Chromebook in schools initiative to India and the search engine giant will be taking the necessary steps to make studies technology-based in the subcontinent. Initially, 4 schools in Andhra Pradesh will be receiving Chromebooks and eventually the scheme will be expanded to other regions.

It has been revealed that the Mountain View-based company will be handing over 25 Chromebooks to each school and will even bear the expenses of training the teachers and instructors in the required software. This is expected to make learning more interactive for students, thus giving them a better understanding of their subjects.

An executive from Google revealed this bit of news to the guys over at Economic Times. The Chromebooks are based on the Chrome OS and are manufactured by multiple companies including Samsung and HP. They primarily need an internet connection and let you save content on the cloud. These notebooks are mainly popular in schools.

It is now coming to India, but has already been running in a lot of schools in a number of other countries. According to the Google executive, about 300 schools are already making the most of the Chromebooks in Malaysia, Singapore and the US.

And what’s more, Google has also entered into collaboration with the department of information technology in Andhra Pradesh for the same. Amongst the four schools where the pilot project will start, three are government-run institutions and one is a private school. It is likely to be introduced in the entire state, after it tastes success in its pilot run.
