Google Reader app ventures into Android Market

Google Reader Android

Even the developers at Google seem to feel that an official reader app for Android has been long overdue. The Google Reader application for Android has finally arrived, as proclaimed by the official Google Reader blog recently.

The basics such as friends, unread counts, liking, shared and starring are accompanied by synced preferences, multiple accounts, search and full subscription features right from the Android handset. A trio of features that could get overlooked due to the fact that they’re harder to find, have also been spelled out in the blog post.

These include navigation for next and previous via the volume keys once it’s been activated in settings. The menu key on each item brings up the ‘send’ feature for deploying items to other relevant apps on the phone with the help of third party apps, while long-pressing on a subscription or folder serves up a contextual menu for unsubscribing, renaming or changing folders.

Google Reader for Android is designed to run on Donut alias Android 1.6 or later versions of the mobile OS.
