Nexus 5 out of stock within hours of hitting Google Play Store India

It’s a sight we’ve never seen before – the Nexus 5 has gone out of stock within hours of hitting Google Play Store India. Quite truthfully, this is the first time a Google-branded smartphone was offered through the company’s very own online outlet. So there was no chance of having witnessed something like this previously.

But no need to be disappointed if a white Nexus 5 is what you’re after. It’s only the black version of the device that can’t be ordered in 16GB or 32GB configurations. The pale-hued smartphone can still be yours within a few business days, or a week at the most.

The 16GB handset sells for Rs 29,000, while its 32GB variant can be picked up for Rs 33,000. And we daresay LG as well as other authorized retail stores across India may still have the black one in stock. As for the Nexus 7 tablet which was also released today, there’s no such problem of supply falling short of demand presently.

Should you buy a Nexus 5?

The Nexus 5 boasts of several better features as compared to its predecessor. Just pit a quad core 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, up to 32GB onboard storage, a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 touchscreen, LTE and a 2300mAh battery against a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC, up to 16GB memory, a 4.7-inch 1280 x 768p display, no LTE and a 2100mAh battery, for starters.

LG has manufactured both handsets and Android 4.4 KitKat is being rolled out to the Nexus 4. The camera on the new smartphone is supposed to be better than that of the old one, though rumors suggest Google thinks it could have been better. Whatever be the case, the latest handset seems to have sold out faster than expected. What does Apple have to say?
