Google Nexus 8 and Android 4.5 launch date to fall in July, says leak

A Google Nexus 8 tablet as well as Android 4.5 are set to be revealed in July 2014, according to a report that has set a thousand tongues wagging. Before getting to the fun part, we don’t know whether Google will stick to Asus in order to manufacture its next tablet. Will it be HTC, LG or Samsung instead? There’s really no way to tell presently.

Mountain View will be hosting its I/O 2014 developer conference between June 25 to 26. Android Geeks got in touch with one of the company’s Dublin employees to check if the next version of Android would be revealed at the event. It is apparently not going to happen since Google wants the spotlight to be on its services which are very important to its continued growth.

The source reportedly went to unofficially confirm that Google would pick a date in July to launch the Nexus 8 along with Android 4.5. Also, the company is said to be keen on ditching the 7-inch form factor. It probably has to do with the fact that the line between large smartphones and tablets are getting too blurred and a 7-inch display is not much bigger than a 6-inch one.

Also, the competition is slightly lower in the 8-inch market, with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0, Dell Venue 8, Huawei MediaPad M1 and LG G Pad 8.3 among the few well known rivals. Rumors from Taiwan have put a release date of April 2014 (sounds too early) for the Nexus tablet, so we’re not sure if the news about Asus being the manufacturer is correct.

What will be next Android version after KitKat?

Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jelly Bean – notice what binds together these nicknames for the previous versions of Android? The starting letters of their names are in alphabetical order and they all stand for desserts or sweet treats. Indian fans have already begged Google to call the next update to the OS Ladoo or Lassi.

The company had gone for KitKat this time explaining that it is known across the world by people of all ages and class. So we don’t know if an Indian dessert would cut it. In keeping with the current policy, will it be Lindt? Or Lemon Meringue? Or Lollipop? You have to admit it, it’s fun trying to guess the name of Android 4.5.
