Google Maps 5.3

During the start of last month, Google introduced v5.2 of Google Maps featuring ‘pings’ for Latitude, hotpot tweets and improved search results. The company recently announced the latest Google Maps v5.3 for Android-based handsets. The updated version enables easy viewing of location history dashboard, insertion of personalized aspects when rating a place and checking in at ‘home’.

According to the official Google Mobile blog, Android phone owners can seamlessly enable location history through Google Latitude to analyze traveling trends with a personal dashboard. Simply tapping on the ‘View location history’ option from Latitude’s Settings menu will provide a comprehensive estimate of how much time was spent at work, home or out as well as how much one has traveled. This optional attribute lets users easily mange or delete location history from the Manage History tab.

In addition to checking in at various places using Latitude, this latest version allows users to notify their loved ones when they are at home. The check in at ‘home’ feature is also entirely opt-in and people can decide on whom to share home check-ins with. The upgraded flavor of the software enables inclusion of personalized aspect on any place when rating it. It provides users with the ability to quickly share individual perspectives on destinations they visit.

Google Maps 5.3 can be downloaded via the Android Marketplace free of cost on handsets with Android 1.6 and later versions of the OS.
