Google Maps now supports ski resort locations

Google Maps has managed to spread its wings even further, by counting in ski resort locations among its offerings. Using smartphones as well as usual computers, interested parties will be able to plot their courses, and discover them easily without having to go through looking around for them. At the moment, a total of 38 such maps have been infused by the search giant into its navigation service, while more are on their way, it reveals.

This addition to the attributes of Google Maps is applicable only for mountains across the US and Canada. Skiing and snowboarding enthusiasts, who’re looking for slopes to slide down on, can grab its benefits. As can be seen in the image posted below, blue, green and black runs are shown as solid colored lines. On the other hand, locations of ski lifts are denoted by red dotted lines, according to a blog post by the company.

Just zooming in on the desired mountain can grant users whatever information about its ski resorts they need. And that’s not all; Street View previews of some of the slopes have even been composed, for granting a detailed look at the terrain beforehand. For those unaware, this technology allows users to have a look at panoramic views of real locations, and is available in select countries as of now.

The specific mountain maps that have been introduced through the new service include those for Alpine Meadows, Aspen Highlands, Copper Mountain, Crested Butte Mountain Resort, Heavenly Mountain Resort, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, Mount Bachelor, Mount Shasta and a lot more. As time passes by, we can expect this feature to be doled out for other regions across the globe as well.

Another such innovation which the company introduced recently was Indoor maps which is available in France right now. It allows users gain access to indoor spaces as opposed to having just a plain over-the-top view of the locations. The feature has been optimized for major locations in the country, to include a number of retailers, malls, museums, airports and more.
