Arriving as good news for owners of the iPhone and iPad is the announcement of the updated version of the Gmail for iOS app. The upgraded application boasts of some new functionalities and an enhanced and more simplified user interface.

Version 1.1 has brought along with it a new feature which seems to be apt for the creatively inclined. Besides typing, users are now able to pen down their thoughts and views by scribbling and then attaching them through the scribbles button in compose view. To make these random doodles look colorful and funky, users can choose from a variety of tools such as different shades, brush sizes, lines, erasers and spray paint.

For employing scribbles, users may simply open up a canvas and scratch out any message. This feature is said to be ideal for those in creative fields who like to share their ideas through sketches and graphics. iOS device owners are now allowed to create custom signatures for their mobile messages. This refreshed software comes incorporated with a vacation responder which can be accessed via the gear icon that is situated at the top of the menu view.

According to the official Gmail blog, users will be able to experience considerable improvement in the labels attribute that is now capable of lending support to nested labels. The Gmail team is currently working on introducing a variety of frequently requested features for the iOS platform. These include the ability to ‘send-as’ from any account that has already been configured in Gmail, banner notifications and incorporation of support for multiple logins.

The updated Gmail for iOS app can now be downloaded for free from the App Store.
