Gmail 4.2.1 for Android available on the Google Play store for free

Google has rolled out the Gmail 4.2.1 for Android app and it claims to have fixed a few loopholes in the process. A post on the official Google+ account states that it has been released with an intention to make viewing and reading messages an easier task.

The updated edition saves users the hassle of viewing messages that have been cut off at the edges by introducing auto-fit. This option resizes the entire mail to aptly align to the handset’s screen size.

Those who aren’t satisfied with the font size should be able to zoom using the pinch-in or out capabilities. This however, is not enabled by default and has to be activated with the help of the general settings menu.

The Google Play store’s What’s New section brings under the spotlight the swipe feature. This allows archiving or deleting mails by just swiping across the screen. Similar to the pinch to zoom characteristic, the key to activate this option lies in general settings.

UI

Also, the Gmail 4.2.1 for Android app has been tweaked to showcase thumbnails of picture attachments as soon as a message is opened. On tapping these previews, a gallery springs up and users can browse through individual images.

Not only this, the new version also permits attaching videos that have been recorded on the phones to messages. All the aforesaid additions are valid for devices running on the Ice Cream Sandwich or newer editions of the operating system. For those using handsets that are based on Froyo or up, the app includes a new Labels API for third-party developers.

Tablet UI

Besides the fresh introductions, it includes existent attributes. For instance, the software still facilitates managing multiple accounts concurrently, viewing and saving attachments as well as setting up label notifications.

The 4.2.1 version of the Gmail for Android app is available via the Google Play store. It can be downloaded free of cost.
