Gionee W900 flip-smartphone with dual 1080p screens shows up

The Gionee W900 is blending the old with the new as it plans to offer a smartphone in a design guaranteed to invoke nostalgia. We’re talking about a high-end handset with a form factor that’s managed to live on for over a decade, the flip phone or clam-shell, depending on what you prefer.

The Gionee W900 features the same traditional design where the upper body carries the display, while a numerical keypad can be found on the lower half. The difference here is that the top portion has dual 4-inch screens and they proffer 1080p visuals with touch support as well as a pixel density of a whopping 550ppi.

The downside here is that such an approach results in a thick design, 14.8mm in this case. There are dual cameras aboard as well, a 13MP snapper on the rear and a 5MP sensor above the secondary display

GSMArena is reporting that the phone is powered by a 1.5GHz quad core processor of unknown make and it has 4G LTE support. Gionee isn’t the first to deliver such an experience as other OEMs including Samsung and LG have kept the design going by releasing similar devices over the years and still continue to do so.

Gionee W900 specs overview:

– Dual 4-inch 1080p displays
– 1.5GHz quad core processor
– Android 4.4 KitKat
– 2GB RAM, 16GB expandable storage

Flip phones aren’t in demand anymore in most locations except for specific Asian markets including China and that’s precisely where the Gionee W900 will go on sale.
