Gionee M5 handset with dual battery setup gets certified in China

Large battery smartphones are on the rise, but the Gionee M5 may have just taken things to a whole new level. It’s pretty common to see affordable device with 4000mAh power packs, some even going up to 5300mAh. The upcoming device, on the other hand, manages to squeeze in a total capacity of 6000mAh.

To achieve this, the Gionee M5 has not one, but to batteries onboard. And the most surprising thing here is that the company has managed to squeeze the two power packs into the handset without adding a lot of bulk. The phone is 8.6mm thick, but it’s on the heavy side by tipping the scales back by 213 grams.

The TENAA listing confirms the existence of the 6000mAh battery capacity on the M5 and the cells are most likely non-user replaceable. A power pack of such high capacity should at least deliver 2 days of usage or even more if you’re not a heavy user.
