Gionee Elife E8 pops up in India for Rs 34999

The Gionee Elife E8 could have arrived in the Indian market at a better time considering that it now has to compete against a pretty strong rival that’s cheaper too. The phone from the Chinese manufacturer will be selling for Rs 34999. If you’re wondering where you’ve seen it before, it goes by the name BLU Pure XL in the US for $349 unlocked, that’s almost Rs 23000.

Snapdeal has bagged the exclusive right to sell the Gionee Elife E8 starting from October 12. The smartphone does better (on paper) than the Moto X Style with regards to its photography features covering a 24MP camera and an 8MP front-facing lens. Its bag of tricks includes a six-element lens with sapphire glass, OIS, 3x lossless zoom, 4K video, phase detection auto-focus and the ability to mesh photos together to produce 120MP stills.

Gionee Elife E8

This Gionee Elife handset has a 6-inch 2560 x 1440p AMOLED touchscreen, 3GB RAM, 64GB internal memory, 128GB microSD card support, 4G connectivity, NFC and dual SIM slots. It is powered by an octa core MediaTek processor and a 3520mAh battery. Amigo 3.1 software mingles with Android Lollipop here, and there’s the wildly popular fingerprint sensor on board too. Now to pit it against the aforementioned Motorola device which sells at Rs 31999 for the 32GB model.

Gionee is expected to allot Rs 225 crore on marketing in this financial year, but it still has to earn as much brand reputation as Motorola in India. So it’s likely that the new Moto phone which carries similarly impressive specs along with a lower cost, will do better in the market. The handset has a 5.7-inch Quad HD panel, 21MP and 5MP snappers with flash units, 3GB RAM, 128GB expandability, dual SIM, 4G, a 3000mAh battery and a Snapdragon 808 chip.

If the difference in internal memory and lower resolution cameras don’t bother the budget-conscious customer, Gionee may find it comparatively hard to win enough takers.
