If you shake it you can charge it: Genneo juices up mobiles with the power of motion

There’s this new Genneo project on Kickstarter which will let you charge your cell phone or other mobile devices purely through the power of your movements. The products under this label go by the model numbers G4000 and G3000.

These chargers basically work as backup sources which are juiced up when you move around. And they don’t require your motions to be quick or hurried in order to get energized; routine movements including walking about is enough.

Of course, if you want to refuel a dying gadget in a jiffy, the Genneo will be more than happy to accommodate you shaking it impatiently and to multiply its charging speed by 20 times or more. The device can also tank up through a wall outlet via the charger that you use for your phone.

Each of the two Genneo variants mentioned above come with standard micro USB and USB-A ports so you can hook your handset or compatible gadget to it and draw power. If you manage to move around the G3000 with its 2900mAh battery for 7 hours, it will deliver up to 1 hour of extra talk time for your phone.

1 hour of talk time can be squeezed out of the G4000 with its 3400mAh battery, provided you haul it about the place for 5 hours at least. Also, it renders 3 minutes of additional talk time when shaken for a minute, while the G3000 proffers 2 minutes of the same per minute. The makers have described the units as weather proof add-ons with anodized aluminum bodies and rubber caps.

The Genneo G4000 costs $225 and its G3000 edition is priced at $175. Here’s where you can go if you’d like to order one.
