You certainly can’t enter into a normal paper airplane flying contest with this, but your smartphone and PowerUp 3.0 are all you need to launch your toy into the great open sky and steer it with ease. A page on Kickstarter is showing off this project by Shai Goitein, which lets you fly the coolest ever paper aircrafts.

Check out the YouTube video we’ve posted below, if you please. PowerUp 3.0 is a small and lightweight module which must be inserted into the airplane in question. The images attached show the tiny device held within the center crease of some regular looking crafts, probably the most popular designs we saw in our childhood days.

Users will most likely have to stick to paper for building their plane. The tiny PowerUp device is fastened with clips to the center. After folding a sheet into an airplane and affixing the module, users will have to launch a downloadable app to control it through their phone. The setup stays connected to the handset over Bluetooth LE as long as both are within 55 meters of each other.

The PowerUp 3.0 features a carbon fiber frame to help it survive shocks from crashes. It is powered by a Li-polymer battery which is worth 10 minutes of flight time between charges. But don’t be too worried about this. The developer throws in a 1000mAh portable power pack for juicing it up at $35 more than the original $40 price. Users can maneuver their plane by simply tilting their handset to the right or left.
