Flow Powered by Amazon app arrives for iPhone

Flow Powered App

A9.com, a subsidiary of Amazon, recently released the new Flow Powered app for the iPhone. The augmented reality app helps users browse through and discover innumerable products belonging to varied categories like books, DVDs, electronics, toys and clothes, among others, in a real world setting.

This application provides customers with interactive product data about the items around them. To operate the app, all users have to do is point their iPhone towards a book, video game, CD, DVD or such other objects on sale that have UPC barcodes.

Once the app has recognized the object, its details will be shown to users on the iPhone’s screen via Amazon.com product information. For further knowledge about the desired item, users can also play out multimedia content and read customer reviews from the app.

“This is our first step towards integrating product search technology with augmented reality. The integration of a live camera display, graphical overlays, and visual recognition technology creates a seamless experience for a customer looking to discover information about objects in their physical surroundings,” stated Bill Stasior, president of A9.com.

The visual search team of A9.com created the continuous scan technology that is incorporated in this app to identify products and deliver relevant information found on Amazon.com. It gives users access to the website’s popular shopping features including product information, customer reviews and ratings along with sharing options through Facebook, Twitter or email.

Flow Powered by Amazon can be downloaded for free from the Apple App Store.
