Flappy Bird will return indeed, says developer Dong Nguyen on Twitter

Flappy Bird is flying back into app stores, and we have word about its return from none other than the game’s developer, Dong Nguyen. The confirmation came via Twitter when a fan going by the @painfullpacman username asked Nguyen whether Flappy Bird would be put back on the App Store.

The great news is…

Nguyen replied with a ‘Yes. But not soon.’ But what’s even better news for diehard enthusiasts who spent sleepless nights over the game is the fact that the new Flappy Bird will be an improved version of the title. Again, this tidbit comes via Twitter from the developer himself.

Flappy Bird

Well, when a game is devilishly addictive and earns a whopping $50,000 in advertisement revenue, you would expect the creator to come to his/her senses and release it again, right? It’s not clear if Nguyen’s decision to pull the title from app stores was a publicity stunt or not (as if it needed any more publicity), but the web’s afire with news of its forthcoming return.

For those of you who’ve been living under a rock on another planet, Flappy Bird is a highly addictive game which draws inspiration from Mario. The gameplay revolves around simple tap mechanics which require you to fly the feathered critter resembling Mario’s Cheep Cheep fish character, through green pipes, without letting it touch these obstacles even with the tip of its beak.

You earn a point for every pipe you fly it past. If you haven’t played it you won’t get why anyone would pay almost $100,000 for a used iPhone just because it had Flappy Bird installed on it. This actually happened! But you should be able to understand the hype in the future when it’s back for downloading.
