Staying fit just got easier with the release of the Fitbit for Android app that is now available on Google Play, free of charge. It was out for the iOS platform in October last year and claims to be the only fitness application to be offered on both the Apple and the Android operating systems, reports the official Fitbit blog.

According to the blog, the company has not tweaked its Apple version, but has developed the software again to suit Android devices. Users can employ the application to keep track of their activities, food as well as their weight. It syncs with the account created on the official Fitbit website and allows viewing the data of the past two weeks via the handheld device.

“When we released our iPhone app last October and saw the warm reception it received, we started working on our Android app. We made a point to design our app specifically for Android phones, rather than just try to make the existing app work on Android. We hope you’ll be happy with the results,” states the official Fitbit blog.

And what’s more, the app also provides an updated Food Plan to help its subscribers keep tabs on their calorie intake. Additionally, this updated Food plan will be made available for iOS users through an update towards the end of this month.

The Fitbit for Android app can now be downloaded via Google Play for free. It is currently available in countries like the U.S., the UK and Canada and is slated to be released in some more regions in the future.
