First mobile app unleashed by Georgia Tech Athletic Department

Mobile App

Sports buffs may want to hear about this new app released on different mobile platforms. Well, the innovative app is rolled out by Georgia Tech’s Athletic Department. It encompasses football as well as men and women’s basketball.

Georgia Tech’s mobile app is intended to run on several diverse handsets. The app provides news feeds, schedules, cool live updates of games, audio and video highlights, team and player statistics and links to ticket sales. With this app, one can even directly log on to the Athletic Director Dan Radakovich’s ‘The Good Word’ blog.

Wayne Hogan, associate athletic director for public relations, commented, “Like many college athletic departments, Georgia Tech has been bombarded with pitches from mobile web site builders and iPhone app developers. Because of its limitations, a mobile web site wasn’t our first priority and building just an iPhone app didn’t make sense strategically because it would have excluded many of our students, alumni, fans and media who carry other mobile devices, like Blackberry or Windows Mobile phones. So when we saw Whoop’s do-it-yourself mobile platform in action, which lets us build and control our own mobile channel and reach all different types of phones, we jumped at the opportunity.”

Jeff Wilson, EVP of sales and marketing of Whoop, stated, “As one of the world’s premier institutes of higher learning and a perennial sports leader in the ACC with rabidly passionate football and basketball fans, Georgia Tech is an ideal client for us. With this new mobile app, Tech fans will be able to stay engaged with their teams wherever and whenever they want. It’s like having their own personal college sports channel on their mobile phone.”

The Whoop Creative Studio was used to develop the Georgia Tech’s mobile app.

Users can download the Georgia Tech mobile app by texting the word ‘Jackets’ to 53000 and abide by the directives. Usual messaging charges may apply. The app comes for no charge.
