Facebook News Feed frowns at memes, tries to be a bit more serious

Facebook has been putting some serious effort into bringing the news to News Feed. The social network has been evolving so rapidly in this direction over the past few months, it’s difficult to name all the changes in chronological order. Some of the features it has introduced with the idea of bringing news to users includes hashtag, follow, embed post, subscribe, follow post and so on.

Gear up for a more serious Facebook experience

The company had outlined some upcoming tweaks to News Feed in the previous quarter of this year. Accordingly, be prepared to see less memes and more news in your stream. Facebook is eager to push ‘good quality’ articles in your face. This is great for getting websites to advertise or promote posts on the social network and earning more revenue. Besides, you don’t have to be distracted by what’s going on in Google News or Twitter if you can see the latest stories while signed into the SNS, right?

Facebook News In News Feed

Facebook claims that referral visitor traffic from it to media sites has grown by more than 170% over the past year. From now on, good quality links will be displayed more prominently than memes on a user’s News Feed. When a user clicks on a post, it may also show up to three related stories on the same subject just below it. If you see the same article in your stream even after you’ve gone through it, then this is happening because friends have commented or liked that story.

Publishers, beware! News Feed will also hold you in less favor if people hide your updates.
