Facebook Messenger app for iPhone & Android debuts

Facebook Messenger app

Facebook crazy Android and iPhone users can now benefit from the newly launched Facebook Messenger app. The app was developed after Facebook’s successful takeover of group messaging app Beluga in March, revealed the official Facebook blog.

Besides its official app, this is the first application that Facebook has come up with. After logging in, users will be able to view their recent chats and messages. The application is quite simple and easy to use, and accommodates group conversations as well. It allows users to send and receive messages as well as photos. They can even name message threads for enabling more convenient usage and continue previous conversations or start a new one.

According to the blog, the need for refreshing is eliminated since all messages are exchanged in real time. Members can choose if they want to receive alerts about new messages. The app also lets them delay these alerts to a later time if they are currently busy.

Users can employ the new application to reach out to all their friends, whether they’re on Facebook or in the phone’s contact list. They simply have to type their friend’s name. The company feels that though the official app possess all features of the new Messenger app, its launch should still give millions of iPhone and Android users a reason to cheer as this is a dedicated quick messaging app, exclusively for chatting and connecting with friends.

The Facebook Messenger app is available for download from the Android Market and the App Store.
