Facebook employs Lightbox photo sharing app’s team

Facebook Employs Lightbox

Facebook seems to be on a roll as after Instagram, the social networking website has acquired the team of yet another photo sharing application, Lightbox. But unlike Instagram, which the SNS bought for $1 billion, it has only hired the team of the Android mobile application in question.

The developers of the app informed users about the association via a post on the official Lightbox blog. Once the team joins the social network, both companies will start working towards developing software for over 500 million mobile users of Facebook.

“We started Lightbox because we were excited about creating new services built primarily for mobile, especially for the Android and HTML5 platforms, and we’re honored that millions of you have downloaded the Lightbox Photos app and shared your experiences with the Lightbox community. In the coming weeks, we will be open sourcing portions of the code we’ve written for Lightbox and posting them to our Github repository,” stated Thai Tran and Nilesh Patel on the official Lightbox blog.

The blog post also informs users that the application will not accept new signups any more. It will be available for the existing customers until June 15 and the designers are also giving subscribers an option to download all of their pictures from the web portal. It has even been confirmed that Facebook will neither buy the application, nor will it acquire the user data uploaded onto the official Lightbox website.

The code of the Lightbox application will be open sourced and soon be posted to the Github repository.
