The Facebook App Center is all set to serve as a hub for mobile apps as well, with the launch of the Send to Mobile button. Having entered the scene just recently, this development is primarily aimed at enabling users to conveniently find and access applications running on iOS or Android platforms via the social platform.
To start with, the utilities in the App Center can be accessed from the corresponding Facebook for Android and iOS applications or the mobile-optimized website. Users will not only be able to look for apps compatible with their devices, but also have access to the respective virtual stores for quick installation. And if an app is already downloaded, it can be opened directly from the SNS.
“We’re excited that developers are beginning to realize the power of integrating Facebook into their mobile apps. As of today, seven of the top 10 grossing iOS apps and five of the top 10 Android apps have integrated with Facebook,” states a post on the official Facebook Developers blog written by Brent Goldman, a software engineer at Facebook.
Moreover, people browsing the App Center on their desktops will see a ‘Send to Mobile’ option on each application page. Clicking this button sends a notification to users with a link to the install page of the concerned online store or a URL to the web app.
So what kind of applications can we find on the SNS? All mobile apps with support for Facebook login are said to be eligible for being listed on the App Center.
