Facebook Android app wishes to read your SMS, access private information: Kaspersky

A report by Kaspersky has revealed that Facebook’s Android application wants to get access to your text messages and even private and confidential information from your devices. As you may already know, Kaspersky deals in cyber security options.

It has been revealed that the Android application has the capability to get access to SMSes you receive on your smartphone. A new feature that has been introduced with the latest update for the app is responsible for it. When you upgrade to the new version, the social network asks for certain permissions that include access to your SMS as well as MMS.

According to Facebook, it wants to read your messages to verify your number without asking you to enter the code that it sends to your mobile phone. All it does is save you a few seconds that you may have to waste to check the code and enter it into the application.

And what’s more, your calendar and private information on it will also be sent to the social network, with your consent of course. And if you are wondering why it needs access to your calendar, then allow us to tell you that it is to check whether you are available for events or not, to which you are invited through Facebook.

This is the reason why Kaspersky warns you to read all the permissions before you unknowingly allow these applications access to your private information and other data.
