Facebook allegedly working on Host Chats

Facebook may not have gone around town announcing its intentions of welcoming a new chat room feature for the social network, but it has subtly revealed that something along similar lines might be heading our way. If we were to believe the grapevine, Facebook will be including something called Host Chat on its list of upcoming developments.

Apparently, any social networker will be able to make the most of this feature by setting up a chat room. What specially caught our attention is that the attribute will allow people to form a part of the conversation without the formality of being invited, as long as they exist on users’ friend list.

Whenever someone initiates a chat, everyone from the person’s contact is notified through News Feeds, leaving them with a choice to join the discussion. Of course we all have folks and pals in our list, whom we would rather avoid inviting.

For those who are wondering how to deal with such unwanted visitors, let’s just say that the company will supposedly give the host enough power to decide who gets to be a part of the whole banter. What’s more, they could even drive friends out of the chat if the need arises. Tech Crunch has reported that the Host Chat option will appear right above the space which is used for composing status updates.

The report speaks of Facebook conducting tests on this feature for the web version on a small scale basis at present and there is no saying whether it will eventually land on users’ News Feeds of be scraped off entirely. But if this feature crosses over to being a reality, there’s quite the chance it could arrive for mobile as well.

So far Host Chat is only said to support texts, but emoticons, photos and videos should be included over time.
