Facebook acquires Instagram, to drop $1 billion on the deal

When Facebook acquires Instagram, a photo sharing app for iOS and Android, roughly $1 billion in cash and shares will be seen exchanging hands. And it looks like Facebook founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has a lot to say on the topic through his account on the SNS.

As stated on the official Facebook page, the company has entered into a new ‘partnership’ with Instagram by means of an agreement they’ve worked out to the satisfaction of both parties, or something along those lines. The $1 billion deal amount we’ve already mentioned will be doled out in the form of cash and Facebook shares. No, not Facebook ‘shares.’

“For years, we’ve focused on building the best experience for sharing photos with your friends and family. Now, we’ll be able to work even more closely with the Instagram team to also offer the best experiences for sharing beautiful mobile photos with people based on your interests,” cited Mark Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of Facebook.

As Zuckerberg puts it, the idea is to build on the app’s advantages, rather than integrate the two services. Some attributes like connecting with other competitive sites or the choice of not sharing Instagrams on the SNS and following people who’re not on users’ Facebook accounts are expected to stay in place.

While the Android counterpart of the app has been enjoying many tweaks over the past few days, we can just keep guessing what will be on the cards once Facebook acquires Instagram properly.
