DuckDuckGo will stay as deliciously anti-Google as you want it to, even with redesign

DuckDuckGo is admittedly a weird name for a search engine when you’re used to ‘Googling’ things on the internet. But after the mass hysteria that broke out last year following reports of NSA peeking into stuff you do on the web and increasing wariness of Google’s thirst for user data for tailored advertisements, DuckDuckGo and similar surveillance-evading services have been gaining in popularity.

DuckDuckGo recently announced a redesign that fortunately doesn’t also involve a change in user policy, like those invasive tweaks to Gmail, GPlus and other services that Google keeps announcing now and again. Navigate to DuckDuckGo and you’re greeted by a simple UI with a search bar and a promise ‘The search engine that doesn’t track you.’

DuckDuckGo
Google Search

Posted above is what opened up when we typed in ‘chicken wings recipe’ – image-driven results followed by an ad and then regular links. And below, you can see what Google Search displays starting with the top three answers being sponsored results before you scroll down to various web links. The overhauled DuckDuckGo returns the kind of comprehensive information you expect to see on the results page itself in a modern-day search engine and it definitely looks more appealing than it did when we checked it out a few months ago.

DuckDuckGo Versus Google Search

It must be the vermillion logo with the duck on it, but there’s something about the DuckDuckGo logo that makes us hungry when we look at it. We’re off to get ourselves a bucketful of chicken wings, while you check out the redesigned interface by following this link.
