Donut is not Android 2.0 according to Android team member

Android Logo Donut Andy Rubin, Director of Mobile Platforms at Google had recently confirmed that Android was going to receive more OS updates soon. Donut was to be the first update followed by Éclair and Flan.

There has been a lot of excitement about the Donut update as the latest code has been revealed. However, according to Engadget, an Android team member named Romain Guy mentioned on the official Android Developers Google Group that Donut is not Android 2.0. This information is a little vague as it is only a one line statement with no further elaboration given in the Google Groups discussion.

Android’s previous update – Cupcake – wasn’t exactly Android 1.5. Improvements made in the Cupcake code branch constituted the 1.5 update. In the same way, Donut may also be a line of code that is being actively developed and when the Android 2.0 update is ready, it will be composed largely of improvements made in the Donut code branch.
