Dolby set to make Rhapsody Music Catalog optimal for mobile devices

Dolby Rhapsody logoMobile users having a penchant for music may want to lend an ear to this tidbit. Dolby reveals to have partnered with Rhapsody to offer an optimized Rhapsody music catalog for mobile phones. With the Dolby Media Generator, Dolby Pulse will now bring high sound quality to mobile devices.

Working in collaboration, the two companies will make the most of the over nine million music tracks in Rhapsody’s music library. The included Dolby Media Generator enhances the service further. It is said to be a highly efficient set of tools allowing content owners, aggregators, distributors, and operators to format content for mobile delivery and playback. Rhapsody has been revealed to join Omnifone in encoding music libraries with the tool.

Thanks to this innovative upgrade, users are anticipated even more efficiency. Allegedly requiring lower storage capacities, it should also deliver higher playback quality, and a user experience that’s rich for mobile entertainment. Users can expect the Rhapsody music catalog to be encoded into Dolby Pulse which is based on the HE AAC audio codec.

“We look forward to working with Rhapsody, one of the world’s premiere music services, to enhance the possibilities of mobile music,” said Rolf Schmitz, Director, Mobile Marketing, Dolby Laboratories. “With Dolby Media Generator, Rhapsody will be able to offer outstanding quality, reduced file sizes, and better experiences for its mobile customers.”

“Delivering a high-quality, on-demand streaming music experience to mobile devices will be critical to our ongoing success,” added Jon Maples, General Manager, Product Management, Rhapsody. “Using Dolby Media Generator helps guarantee that our music library maintains the quality and integrity our subscribers have come to expect from Rhapsody. The ability to provide the best audio experience while creating bandwidth efficiencies made the decision to implement Dolby Media Generator an easy one.”

Putting into use metadata added by Dolby Media Generator, Rhapsody will also soon be offering its mobile subscribers advanced mobile entertainment. Along with superior audio quality, users will also be presented with accurate display options, intelligent search, and speedy load times for mobile music.

It’s not known when this upgrade will be rolled out.
