Mobile application Platform

If all goes well, the mobile industry may encompass a new application platform for handsets in some time. Well, NTT DoCoMo, Renesas Electronics, Fujitsu Limited, NEC Corporation, Panasonic Mobile Communications and Sharp Corporation have declared their agreement to jointly craft a new application platform for mobile devices that would be attuned with Symbian as well as Linux operating systems.

Commercial release of mobile phones integrating the new platform is planned for the second half of the fiscal year ending in March 2012. The new platform is set to provide enhanced processing speeds for high-quality video and improved 3D graphics processing for superior mobile multimedia attributes.

All six companies would use their proficiency in mobile phone development based on their individual experiences in applying current platforms for either Symbian or Linux. The new platform can facilitate handset manufacturers Fujitsu, NEC, Panasonic Mobile Communications and Sharp to evade crafting basic application-processing functions themselves, thus letting them considerably decrease development time and expenses. One the other hand, they can put in more time and resources in the growth of manufacturer-specific handset attributes.

The platform is scheduled to be supplied to handset manufacturers globally. Also, compatibility with open operating systems like Android is said to be under consideration.
