Datawind joins hands with RCom, low cost phones with free Internet arriving soon

March 17 is the day on which the famous Aakash tablet-maker Datawind, is expected to unleash its fresh new smartphone range which will be accompanied by free Internet plans courtesy of RCom. The best part of these products will be that they will fall in the extremely affordable category, with their prices not expected to go beyond Rs 3000.

While one among the two devices will support 3G networks, the other will only be viable for 2G connectivity. It has been revealed by Datawind that it will be partnering with a private network operator in order to the provide the free Internet service along with these new handsets.

In this case, it has tied with RCom to offer free access to about 33 websites. The company’s founder and CEO Suneet Singh Tuli has said to BGR India that they have managed to raise around Rs 150 crore by means of an IPO. This entire money has been earmarked for the project by Datawind.

As revealed by an Indian Express report, the 3G supporting phone among the two devices will come fitted with a 4-inch monitor and runs on a 1.2GHz processor. Moreover, it has also been mentioned that it will be powered by the 4.4 KitKat version of Google’s Android OS. There’s no word out now about the exact specifications of the 2G version which is supposed to cost somewhere around Rs 2000.

Datawind happens to be one of the top vendors of budget-based tablets in India right now. Back in December last year, it launched the new UbiSlate 10Ci and UbiSlate 3G10 slates with entry-level specs and cheap price tags.
