China Mobile to build 3G Base Stations for Beijing Olympics 2008

China Mobile and Beijing Logo China Mobile is planning to build outdoor and indoor station to distribute 3G service during the Beijing Olympic Games next summer.

They are going to build 2,059 outdoor base stations and 1,015 indoor ones which can be distributed through a system in Beijing.

To avoid interference between different TD-SCDMA experimental networks, networks built by China Netcom would be brought into China Mobile’s TD-SCDMA commercial experimental network.

However, China has to issue a permanent 3G service license, but is waiting for TD-SCDMA technology to improve before opening it to the 3G market for 3G platforms.

The Chinese government has decided to issue the 3G license in time. The service has to be launched ahead of the Olympics which is scheduled for August 8th, 2008.

The cost of the base station is approximately 860,000 yuan which includes accessories and equipment.
