China launches English News Mobile Service, ahead of Beijing Olympics 08

Beijing Olympics 2008 Logo Now that the Olympic Games are drawing closer, China is getting all set by preparing for every aspect of the magnanimous event scheduled to take place in Beijing from August 8-24, 2008. This Tuesday, China unveiled an English mobile phone news service which will help meet the demand for more people from English-speaking countries to receive first-hand news about China and the Beijing Olympics.

This English mobile news paper was jointly launched by China Mobile and China Daily in Beijing.

This service will send news in both Chinese and English to users’ mobile phones in the form of multimedia messages via wireless technology.

A huge number of foreigners are expected to visit China for the Beijing Olympics 2008. In fact, it has been estimated that around 3 million travelers, athletes, officials and business people will be arrive in Beijing over the next 12 months!

Thus, this newly launched English news service for mobile phones will be very useful. In fact, as soon as the Beijing Olympics begin, reporters will be all over the place covering news stories. This service will help Chian to connect with the rest of teh world and vice versa.

According to Gao Anming, President of Chinadaily.com, “There is a big demand for English news in China. Many foreigners now living in China want access to English news in a quick and convenient way. There are also many Chinese people, including workers in foreign-owned enterprises, who want to improve their English. So we decided to provide such a product.”
