BSNL is not offering 20GB of 3G data for Rs 50

Recent reports about BSNL offering 20GB of 3G data for Rs 50 to prepaid customers have turned out to be false. The news became a trending topic on social media and sites for quite some time before getting struck down as a hoax.

20GB of 3G surfing for Rs 50 sounds like an offer that was too good to be true. A number of people tried to reason this out by claiming that the scheme was subsidized by the Prime Minister’s Digital India initiative. There were even reports of users being able to share their BSNL data with 4 other people who would be able to access it for free.

BSNL hasn’t issued an official statement regarding the bogus plan yet. However, a source has told the Times of India that the state-run entity does not have such a scheme in place and has no plans to implement one in the future.

BSNL has in fact been trying to attract subscribers over the past few months with offers such as slashing mobile call tariff rates by 80% for new customers, free roaming, and integrating landline connections with handsets so users can take advantage of fixed-line benefits on their device.
