BSNL and UTStarcom will continue their partnership for 3 more years

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited or BSNL has decided to extend its contract with broadband infrastructure solution provider UTStarcom to supply and maintain its broadband triple-play network by another three year. This contract was awarded to the company last year with an aim of facilitating broadband and fixed line transformation.

While the financial details about this deal haven’t been provided yet, UTStarcom has commented that the partnership ‘reinforces the strength’ of its advanced, efficient and reliable broadband infrastructure solutions. Effectively, the new deal will allow the company to supply and maintain BSNL multiplay until 2018.

It can be noted that UTStarcom currently holds nearly 35% share in the broadband Internet network equipment sector of India. After the announcement, NK Gupta who happens to be the Board Director (Consumer Fixed and Mobility) of BSNL went on to say that the state-run telecom operator is dedicated to serving its customers with affordable and innovative telecom services.

He also added that the partnership will further deepen the company’s relationship with its decade-old partner, UTStarcom and also allow it to continue the transformation of its broadband and fixed line network. According to The Economic Times, the CEO of UTStarcom, William Wong has revealed that his company is ‘excited’ to play a key role in the rollout of BSNL’s multiplay broadband internet service.

UTStarcom is currently also planning to expand its efforts in this department later this year, while it will even be seen working with Indian telecom operators, system integrators and the government on initiatives such as Digital India program which is an initiative launched by the Indian administration with an aim of integrating the government’s digital services and the people of India.
