Britannica reveals Volcanoes, Dinosaurs and Ancient Egypt iPhone apps

Britannica Apps The traditional education system seems to be paving the way for a fresher flexible method of studying. Teachers have been coming up with innovative ways to blend in fun and studies to grab the student’s attention. Encyclopaedia Britannica has unveiled three new apps which would assist in making studies fun. Entitled Volcanoes, Dinosaurs and Ancient Egypt, these offerings are designed for the Apple iPhone.

Optimized for students’ aged 8 to 10, these apps can help improve their average grade. The three topics covered by them are major school topics. They feature a blend of age-appropriate games and reliable information which comprehensively covers the subject. Overview articles penned by Britannica editors include some aspects of each topic like the world of dinosaurs, plate tectonics, and the dynasties of Egypt. The app amasses a plethora of multimedia elements, photos, videos, puzzles, maps, quizzes and narrated slide shows. Each one of them has a navigation wheel placed at the bottom of the screen for easy navigation.

“These apps provide a unique interactive learning experience for kids,” stated Britannica president Jorge Cauz. “They’re a lot of fun and give parents a convenient way to keep their kids engaged, entertained and educated while on the go. Teachers can use them in the classroom, too. They’re novel, entertaining, safe and very versatile. Some parents let their children borrow their iPhones and we’re now seeing this happen with iPads, too. And of course many kids have their own iPod Touch. No matter how a family uses this technology, we want our products to work for them. ”

As more and more kids own a phone these days probably apps would be a good way to reach out to them. The three Britannica applications also come with special features like virtual jigsaw puzzles, memory-match games, media galleries and quizzes, with which kids could test themselves. Furthermore, they contain a list of the most dangerous volcanoes along with an article on each one of them, important dinosaurs including Allosaurus to Velociraptor and the Egyptian gods from Amon to Thoth. Users can even share the information on Twitter or Facebook.

The company plans on introducing Android versions of the apps later this year and is still considering whether to convert them into foreign languages. In the upcoming months, the company along with its development partner, Concentric Sky intends to launch some more new titles. The Encyclopaedia Britannica apps namely Volcanoes, Dinosaurs and Ancient Egypt are retailing for $4.99 each. They are available for download from the App Store.
