BlackBerry’s sales in India declined by 50 percent in Q3 2013

India was one of the few markets that still have some demand for BlackBerry devices, but it looks like the equations are changing now and not many people prefer device manufactured by the Canadian company any more. An IDC report has revealed that the company’s sales in India declined by almost 50 percent in third quarter of 2013 as compared to Q2, reveals an IDC report.

Apparently, BlackBerry pushed merely 68,000 units in the third quarter, which is about 55 percent less than what it sold in the period between April and June. The second quarter had seen the Canadian company selling about 1.5 lakh units and in Q3 2012, close to 1.52 lakh smartphones were sold. These are wholesale numbers, which means they only include units sold by the manufacturer to its channel partners.

Times of India says that it contacted IDS to confirm these numbers, but it refused to comment saying it will reveal data only through its report. As far as BlackBerry is concerned, it simply refuted IDC’s claims and says that the units sold by dealers are actually more than the wholesale number revealed in the said report. It even said that the conglomerate doesn’t break down sales on the basis of the country and assured that this is not the true reflection of actual sales to end customers.

According to Manasi Yadav, senior market analyst at IDC, BlackBerry’s pricing is at fault and it hasn’t taken proper measures to market its product that has resulted in the decline of its sales. She believes that the company can still bounce back.
