BlackBerry to introduce voice calls, Channels on BBM for Android, iOS by February

BlackBerry has some more surprises in store for its Android and iOS BBM customers and those include voice calls over the internet. An official announcement is imminent, but we can tell you that the update will be rolled out in the coming weeks, hopefully in February.

In addition to the voice calling facility, the BBM applications on these platforms will also support the all new BBM Channels. This piece of information was revealed by Krishnadeep Baruah, senior director, channel marketing, BlackBerry Asia Pacific, report the guys over at Economic Times.

The company executive himself revealed that a global update for the two operating systems in on its way. Along with making voice calls like Viber and Line, subscribers should even be able to forward voice messages to friends on their network. And along with Android and iOS, these features will also come to gadgets running BlackBerry 5 OS and later versions.

And that’s not quite all. Baruah says that the video calling feature on BBM which is currently only limited to smartphones running BlackBerry 10 OS, will soon be introduced on the other versions of the instant messaging application as well. However, an exact date or even a release window for the same has not been mentioned as yet.
