BlackBerry BBM 2.0 does voice calls for Android and iPhone now

You can download the BlackBerry BBM 2.0 update if you want to make voice calls on iPhone or Android devices. With Viber now moving into the hands of Japanese firm, Rakuten, the company has introduced the refresh at a moment that messenger services are making the headlines. Viber allowed for texting, sharing photos and making calls over VoIP for free.

With the added voice calling functionality for iPhone and Android, BBM offers one more reason to download it. The 2.0 upgrade has brought in a 100 more emoticons too, raising the count to around 200. And we must admit, some of them like the zombie, face palm and pirate are quite cool.

Well, BBM is one of last few straws BlackBerry is clutching at to make sure the company stays afloat after the amount of bad luck it’s been having with its devices unit. So big improvements must come to the software. Back in January, it announced the 2.0 update would be released in February.

In its official BlackBerry blog, the company notes that BBM Channels which is designed to function as a kind of social networking feature, is now open to users. It is almost like a Facebook Page dedicated to a particular topic and which can be followed by users.

You can have up to 50 people in one BBM group with this update. Additionally, there’s Dropbox integration, the ability to share a photo voice note or file with a click and Glympse-powered location services. The last mentioned allows users to share their live locations with friends.
