BlackBerry App World attains the 10,000 app milestone

BlackBerry App WorldAbout a month back, the Gowalla app housed in the BlackBerry AppWorld, was upgraded to version 1.0. BlackBerry has just announced on Twitter that their App World has finally amassed 10,000 applications. The big players in this field are obviously Apple and Google with their App Store and Android Market, respectively.

Apparently the App Store archives around 250,000 programs whereas Android houses 100,000. Looking at these figures RIM seems to be lagging behind, but all the same we are sure that it will soon buck up. Another major hurdle would be that most of its consumers are professionals, who might not be able to download a lot from the App World.

“BlackBerry App World is 10,000 apps strong and growing – what apps do you love?” tweets Research In Motion.

RIM had recently unveiled its App World 2.0, which was said to be loaded with developer-friendly features. Probably this new upgrade would make many more developers sign up to create programs for BlackBerry handsets. With the count at 10,000, we hope BlackBerry App World keeps raining down more programs.
