BlackBerry 9720 officially debuts totting BB 7.1 OS

The BlackBerry 9720 had been leaked out in the past, and it’s only now that the Canadian manufacturer has decided to go official with it. The device of course doesn’t grab the Curve nomenclature which previous similar handsets from the company did, but it does have a number of things in common with them in terms of its basic design. Moreover, it runs the BB 7.1 OS instead of Blackberry’s latest BB 10 OS.

The phone bears on it a 2.8-inch touchscreen display which is able to garner a resolution of 480 x 360 pixels at 214ppi. Sized at 114mm x 66mm x 12mm, it tips the scales at 120 grams. A redesigned version of the familiar Blackberry QWERTY keyboard has been placed on its front surface alongside an optical trackpad, while a BBM shortcut key has been introduced on its side surface.

Powering the 9720 from within is a 806MHz Tavor MG1 processor and a 512 MB RAM. Apart from that, there’s 512MB of internal storage memory as well, which is expandable till up to 32GB by means of a microSD card slot placed under the phone’s battery door. This device even features a 5MP EDOF camera with flash, and 4X digital zoom.

Its power supply is a 1450mAh removable battery that is claimed to grant it up to 7 hours worth of talktime and up to 18 days worth of standby time. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi with hotspot functionality fall under its other attributes.

The BlackBerry 9720 it seems is gearing up to hit Europe, Asia and Latin America soon. However, there’s no price tag attached to it as yet.
