Asus confirms new Padfone Infinity launch for September 17

The Asus Padfone Infinity was shown off back at the MWC 2013 in February and it’s the successor to the Padfone 2 which was launched last year. Now, after 7 months of its launch, a refreshed version of the smartphone-slate combo is scheduled to go live. And by the looks of things, the company will retain the current branding for its latest release.

Simply calling the device the new Padfone Infinity doesn’t come as a surprising move, especially since only minor changes to the specifications are expected. The OEM has started teasing the launch already and it has even sent out invites to the media, notes Engadget. The 2-in-1 convertible will be introduced by the company’s CEO Jerry Shen at an event next week which will take place in Taipei. A dedicated page has even debuted with a countdown timer ticking away to the official unveiling. Additionally, there’s also a video (embedded below) which shows the smartphone leave its tablet while playing a clip, resulting in an instantaneous switch from the large display to the handset’s screen.

The new Padfone Infinity leaked online when the device showed up at GFXBench under the model number A86 and at the Asus tech support website. Based on the details disclosed, the device will have an upgraded processor, the Snapdragon 800, clocked at 2.26GHz, Android 4.2.2 and a microSD card slot. It will also come drenched entirely in white.

The device was initially expected to go official at the IFA, but according to the invite, it will be unveiled on September 17, that’s the coming Tuesday.
