$1 billion revenue reached in India by Apple in FY15

Things have gone Apple’s way by such a large margin in this financial year that the company’s revenue in India has apparently hit the $1 billion mark. This is a good 40 percent increase over last year, and a whopping threefold enhancement to what the company made three years ago in 2011-12.

Prior to this year, Apple wasn’t taking the Indian market much seriously, but its products are now reaching the country very early. Usually, India would be in the second batch of nations where big launches by the company were introduced after the US, but it has now started to be in the first batch.

According to what sources of The Times of India have told the publication, Apple is still to file the final results with the ministry of corporate affairs (MCA). However, even before that, it can be adjudged based on the unit sales figures of the company that over $1 billion revenue has been generated by it.

Cybermedia Research has concluded that a whopping 1.3 million devices have been sold by the Cupertino giant in 2014-15. This number is quite large, considering the fact that only 9.28 lakh units were sold in the previous fiscal year.

Of course, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are being seen as major contributing factors in this success story. Faisal Kawoosa, who happens to be the general manager in the research and consulting department of Cybermedia Research has mentioned said that customers who buy iPhones have a high brand loyalty, and hence the chances of them going for other Apple products are high.

It’s worth noting that even with a revenue of $1 billion having been generated in India by Apple, the market still contributes to just 1 percent of its overall global sales, giving us a clear idea of the kind of massive presence the iPhone-maker has in the world.
