Apple’s Find My iPhone app does just that

Find My iPhone appCrying over a lost iPhone or iPad could just be a thing of the past. At least Apple’s latest application for the iPhone and iPad seems to suggest so. The company releases the Find my iPhone application which does exactly that; it searches for a lost iPhone or iPad.

Users require a MobileMe subscription for signing in with the member name and password that will eventually help locate their devices on a map. This will be done when the application is installed on any other iPhone or iPad. Users can choose to display a message or play a sound for two minutes at full volume even if the device is on silent.

Users can also set a passcode lock on their devices or opt to lock it in the event they already have an existing passcode. The application further allows users to wipe off their device which will help delete all data permanently. After 15 minutes of inactivity, the application will automatically sign out users while they can also choose to manually sign out at any given time.

Supporting English, French, German and Japanese, the application requires iOS 3.1.3 or later. Users are also required to have a MobileMe subscription with a free 60-day trial available now at the company’s official website.

The Find My iPhone application is available for free from the App store.
