Notably, this offer is not applicable for online transactions and it is available only through Apple retail outlets. Potential users need to specifically ask the concerned seller for a discount along with the citation of the third-party authorized source. As per Mac Rumors, Apple stores have been permitted to vend the handsets at discounted rates matching those offered by other major retailers or partner-carriers.
Going by the revised rates, the iPhone 4S 16GB, 32GB and 48GB versions are priced at $149.99, $249.99 and $349.99, respectively. As for the iPhone 4, its new cost stands at $49.99. The overall price cut sums up to $49.01. Recently, Sprint had slashed the iPhone rates, which seems to have spurred Apple stores to take the same boat.
There is no doubt that the upcoming launch of the iPhone 5 could be one major reason for the price drop. Reportedly, this new Cupertino device is expected to start retailing around fall, by September 21. We could expect the iPhone 4S price to be further slashed at that point.
