Apple is the World’s Third Largest Smartphone Maker, thanks to the iPhone

Apple Logo and iPhone Tech giant Apple may be new to the mobile phone market. But, with the launch of the iPhone, the company created waves in the industry. Now, it has emerged that Apple is the world’s third largest smartphone manufacturer thanks to its revolutionary iPhone.

This title was bestowed upon Apple based on the sales of its iPhone which was only launched in June 2007.

A very astonishing fact is that Apple currently sells the iPhone solely in four countries and that too with rather costly two year-long contracts. This makes Apple quite outstanding in the mobile phone market, considering the above facts.

According to market sources, Apple has shipped 2,320,840 units of the iPhone in Q4 2007. Leading the way in the smart phone market are Research in Motion and Nokia.

“When you consider that it launched part way through the year, with limited operator and country coverage, and essentially just one product, Apple has shown very clearly that it can make a difference and has sent a wake-up call to the market leaders,” said Canalys’ senior analyst Pete Cunningham.
