Apple has confirmed that the newly launched iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will be made available in India from October 7. The announcement came at the devices’ unveiling in San Francisco yesterday. They will be priced starting from Rs 60000 onwards.
Apple has introduced several much needed features like a stereo speaker system on both the devices and a new dual camera system on the iPhone 7 Plus. Both handsets have a seamless outer surface with a significant camera bump on the rear. Their integrated antennas are less visible on the outside.
Design:
Both the iPhone and iPhone 7 Plus are available in the standard rose gold, silver and gold color variants. Besides these, Apple has introduced two new finishes called jet black and black. The jet black finish is glossy and prone to scratches, as mentioned by the company itself. Apple suggests buying a cover for this model. The other black finish has a matte exterior.
Camera:
The two phones have been endowed with primary cameras of 12MP resolution each. They are also supplemented with OIS, Quad-LED True Tone flash, autofocus, a six-element lens and more. The flash claims to lend 50% more light while the Flicker Sensor helps in detecting and correcting iridescent lighting on the subject. The main lenses have an f/1.8 aperture and 4K video footage capability.
The image signal processor on the snapper works at a speed of 100 billion operations in 25 milliseconds, as asserted by Apple. It corrects photos for automatic balance, tone-mapping and white balance among other things. The brand is planning to introduce a depth-of-field effect titled ‘Portrait’ which will be used to throw focus on specific areas in a photograph while blurring the rest of the image.
The iPhone 7 Plus has a dual camera setup with an f/2.8 aperture telephoto lens in 12MP resolution alongside the main snapper. The telephoto shooter delivers 2x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom. Both the smartphones have a 7MP FaceTime HD camera on the front with an f/2.2 aperture accompanied by Retina Flash and auto HDR. It is capable of 1080p HD video recording too.
Display:
A Retina HD display of 4.7 inches is present on the iPhone 7, while it measurs 5.5 inches on the iPhone 7 Plus. The screen resolution for the former is 1334 x 750p and it is full HD for the latter. Apple has maintained that this cinema-standard color display is 25% brighter than others in its league. But the colors will still not pop are brightly as they do on OLEDs.
Performance:
Apple has introduced the A10 Fusion Chip for powering the iPhone 7 seris. The 64-bit processor has four cores, two of which give up to twice the speed of the SoC in the iPhone 6 and the rest supposedly uses only one-fifth of the power employed by their counterparts.
The gadgets have a graphics processing system working at thrice the speed than the one in the iPhone 6. Despite the high speed, the GPU is said to utilize only half the power required. The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus run on iOS 10. The handsets are available with 32GB, 128GB and 256GB memory.
The jet black model is offered only in 128GB and 256GB storage capacities. Apple asserts that the battery in the iPhone can offer up to 14 hours of talk time on the 4.7-inch device and almost 21 hours on the higher end version.
Speakers:
The iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus have stereo speakers that are claimed to be two times louder than the ones in the iPhone 6. Apple provides EarPods with Lightning connector in-the-box. The company has disposed of the conventional audio jack and bundled the phones with a 3.5mm headphone jack adapter.
The tech giant also introduced its new AirPods for wireless communication that will be sold separately. These can help users listen to music, make calls or access Siri with just a double tap. They can be connected to iPhones, Apple smartwatches or other Mac devices via iCloud.
Home button:
The touch-enabled home button on the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus does not click. It works along with a Taptic Engine which helps it to be more accurate in carrying out various functions including activating Siri. The Apple Pay service can now be accessed through this key.
The iPhone 7 serise is claimed to be water and dust resistant to a reasonable extent. The devices support 4G VoLTE connectivity and come with a wide range of built-in applications. Apple is also pre-installing free apps from its stable like iTunes U, Pages and Keynote in the smartphones.
