Apple launches 8GB iPhone 5C in India for Rs 37500, it must be a bad joke

Apple has launched the 8GB iPhone 5C in India for a high price of Rs 37500, making it even costlier than the 16GB capacity model which is being offered at a lower amount through online retailers in India. We know that the Apple iPhone 5C is plastic-fantastic and not meant to be a cheap handset, but our issue is with its cost as compared to that of the 16GB variant.

The 16GB iPhone 5C was launched at Rs 41900 and is now being marked at Rs 34400 on Infibeam, even though other retailers have nailed it a little higher. The Rs 37500 attached to the 8GB option is being reported by NDTV. The website has also mentioned that the phone will be sold at an introductory price of Rs 34500 for a limited time period. Additionally, the company will supposedly throw in a free case with every unit and this is valued at Rs 2300.

iPhone 5C

Apple needs to reconsider the cost of the 8GB iPhone 5C and compare it to the price at which retailers are offering the 16GB handset. We could picture the device reaching stores for a lower amount, but we’re still likely to see it compete with its higher capacity variant that’s not much higher up the price ladder. The version in question was originally launched in numerous markets across Europe and in China amongst other areas. In India, it will occupy the entry-level spot that was recently manned by the now-deceased iPhone 4.

Apple iPhone 5C specifications run-through:

– Dual core Apple A6 chipset
– iOS 7 platform
– 4-inch Retina display
– 8GB internal storage
– No memory expandability
– 8MP rear camera, 1.2MP front snapper
– 59.2mm x 124.4mm x 8.97mm dimensions
– 132gm weight

If Apple truly wants its 8GB iPhone 5C to sell, it will have to make a compromise and push the price down to at least Rs 30000 without buybacks in India.
