Apple iPhone 2.0 Software Beta Introduced

iPhone SDK Enterprise Apple has announced the launch of its 2.0 software in beta version, which has been developed for specifically for iPhone.

This update comprises of Software Development Kit (SDK) and latest enterprise features that includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync that delivers secure, over-the-air push email, contacts and calendars along with remote wipe, and the addition of Cisco IPsec VPN for encrypted access to private corporate networks. It has been licensed through which iPhone can be connected to Exchange Servers 2003 and 2007.

According to Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, ““We’re excited about creating a vibrant third party developer community with potentially thousands of native applications for iPhone and iPod touch. iPhone’s enterprise features combined with its revolutionary Multi-Touch user interface and advanced software architecture provide the best user experience and the most advanced software platform ever for a mobile device.”

Developers will be provided with a set of Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and tools to make innovative applications for iPhone. The Beta SDK for iPhone would be available for download without cost.

Moreover, Apple has introduced new iPhone Developer Program for developers that allows them to develop native applications that includes programming interfaces for Core OS, Core Services, Media and Cocoa Touch technologies. The new App Store will offer their applications to iPhone users.

The ActiveSync support will enable security features such as remote wipe, password policies and auto-discovery. The SDK also incorporates WPA2 Enterprise with 802.1x authentication, ensuring iPhone users to deploy the device with the latest standards for protection of Wi-Fi networks.

You will also be allowed to view PowerPoint attachments, Word and Excel along with the ability to mass delete and move email messages. It also has limited number of developers offering ability to get code onto iPhones for testing.

The Standard Program comes with a price tag of $99 per year that consists of an iPhone SDK and development tools; access to pre-release iPhone software; technical support; the ability to get code onto iPhones for testing; and distribution of applications through the new App Store.
